Patagonian Base Camp - Part One
After a hour flight southward and a two hour car transport over washboard gravel highways, Ryan and I were greeted with pisco sours and cheek kisses at the doorstep of Marcel and Carolina, owners of the Patagonian Base Camp fishing lodge tucked back against the Rio Palena in southwest Patagonia, Chile.
The couple have been running their lodge for the past couple of summers and have quickly built it up into a must see fishing and traveling destination. It is a place focused on the individual and strives to provide a feeling of home. Each day Ryan and I awoke to near organic meals made daily from stratch by Carolina with almost every ingredient grown locally or in her green house.
It was a unique adjustment for the both of us getting used to fishing for trout in streams that resemble New Zealand and a backdrop of lush jungle flora and fauna. It was an incredible place. A place Marcel liked to refer to as ¨Wilderness without teeth¨ due to the lack of predators and monster bugs, poisoness or otherwise.
